Weekend Events December 6th – 8th


Friday, December 6th

Pet Food Drive – 9am – 5pm – Valencia Animal Hospital – Valencia Animal Clinic, 1533 E. River Road, Belen, is holding its 11th annual pet food drive. The goal is to collect 2,000 pounds of pet food for dogs and cats. Food and monetary donations are being accepted until Jan. 10. Donations will be distributed by the Belen Area Food Pantry to Valencia County residents. For information, call 505-864-4075.

1st Annual Christmas Light Display – 5pm – 12am – 202 A DeSoto Ave, Belen, NM – Please join us for the First Annual Christmas Light Display happening in the town of Belen! Going on until January 1st from dusk until midnight. This display features over 25,000 LED lights, a 7-foot manger with angel, a 20-foot snowman, and much more! Santa Claus will be making an appearance every Friday and Saturday night from 6pm – 8pm weather permitting. Candy canes and little gifts will be handed out to the kids. (Read More)

Saturday, December 7th

Bosque Del Apache Bird Tour – 8:30am – Bosque Del Apache National Wildlife Refuge – Meeting location is at 8:30 am at the Visitor Center. We will car pool into the Refuge from the Visitor Center. This is a driving loop. I will explain logistics the morning of. For those of you who want to experience the early morning fly in, plan to be at the Refuge before sunrise and please dress warm because it will be cold! (Read More)

Guitar Lessons – 10am – noon – Belen Public Library – Guitar lessons are offered at 10 a.m. every Saturday at the Belen Public Library. Lessons are also free and open to the public, ages 5-15. Guitars are available for children to use during the lessons, and to check-out so they can practice at home.

Santa in the Barn – 10am – 2pm – Valencia County Fairgrounds – Local craft vendors and 4-H and FFA members will have booths at the annual Santa in the Barn event, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Valencia County Fairgrounds, 14 N. 1-25 Bypass, Belen. Take pictures with Santa.

Women’s Christmas BouteaQue – 10am – 12pm – Calvary Chapel Rio Grande – Ladies join us for a delightful morning of food, fellowship and a teaching. Tickets are on sale now!

How the Grinch Stole Rio Communities – 3pm – 7pm – Rio Communities City Hall – Please come down Rio Communities Toys for Tots on December 7,2024 starting at 3pm-7pm. There will be cookies, hot chocolate, door prizes, pictures with the Grinch followed with a movie “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.“ And so much more! We hope to see all the Christmas spirit kiddos and adults!

Mid Century Christmas – 4pm – 6pm – Studio 508 – Vintage aluminum Christmas trees from the 1960s to present will be on display from 4-6 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 7; and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 14, at Studio 508 on Becker Avenue in Belen. Each tree is decorated with different ornaments from the ʼ50s, ʼ60s and ʼ70s. Reminisce in the memories past.

Policemen’s Ball & Award Banquet – 5:30pm – 9:30pm – Fat Sat’s Bar & Grill – You are invited to the 2024 Policemen’s Ball and Award Banquet. This event will be held on Saturday, December 7th from 5:30pm – 9:30pm at Fat Sat’s Bar & Grill.The tickets may be purchased by calling the Belen Police Department at 505-966-2727. They are $30 per seat. There will be dinner, dancing, door prizes, and a cash bar. This is a formal wear event and RSVP is required.

Enchanted Holiday Concert – 6pm – 8pm – UNM Valencia Campus – An Enchanted Holiday Concert will be held from 6-8 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 7, in the SCC Multi-Purpose Auditorium at UNM-Valencia campus, featuring several performances. Enjoy the sounds of UNM-Valencia Rio Grande Singers and a brass quintet performance. Proceeds benefit UNM-Valencia Student Food Pantry. Tickets are $20 at the door, no pre-sales.

Sunday, December 8th

Historic Tomé Jail and Casita Open to the Public – 11am – 3pm – Historic Tomé Jail – The town of Tomé Land Grant invites the public to visit the historic jail and casita at the Tomé Church Plaza, 18 Church Loop. Visitors are welcomed from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Sunday.

Circle of Friends Christmas Party – 3pm – 5pm – Belen Moose Lodge 1680 – The Women of the Moose are hosting a Circle of Friends Christmas event for children, teens, and young adults with special needs.
